Wisconsin Department of Safety & Professional Services - Fire Prevention/FD Safety & Health Program

State of Wisconsin will be conducting a CRR Ceremony during CRR Week 2026 to highlight the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation, one of many Wisconsin Fire Service Organizations and Fire Departments that currently have an amazing CRR Program to reduce risk in our communities. And will also utilize CRR Week 2026 to raise awareness of the importance of CRR in Wisconsin, in our fire service community and take advantage of this opportunity to make communities safer in our State.

Novato Fire District

“At the Novato Fire District, Community Risk Reduction is a year-round effort guided by the 5 E’s: Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Economic Incentives, and Emergency Response.

Through Education, we focus on building a culture of safety across all ages. This includes teaching elementary school students about smoke alarms and having two ways out of the home, providing emergency preparedness education for adults, encouraging residents to subscribe to local emergency notifications, and offering fall prevention outreach for seniors.

Our Engineering and planning efforts focus on identifying and preparing for local risk. This includes pre-planning commercial buildings and known hazards throughout the city, as well as developing evacuation maps for every neighborhood to support both public preparedness and emergency response.

Enforcement plays a key role through inspections, code compliance, defensible space assessments, and vegetation management, all aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving community safety.

We also support Economic Incentives by administering grant programs that help residents complete defensible space and home hardening projects, while participating in Measure C funding initiatives focused on wildfire risk reduction.

These prevention efforts are reinforced by Emergency Response through year-round training, ensuring our crews are prepared for the scenarios most likely to impact Novato. By applying the 5 E’s in a coordinated and proactive way, we work to reduce risk before emergencies occur and help protect our community every day.”

This week, our Community Risk Reduction efforts are centered on helping residents stay safe by sharing information on the proper handling, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries, tips to reduce slip, trip, and fall hazards for our elderly residents, and strategies to lower wildfire risk in the Wildland-Urban Interface.

Central Berkeley Fire & EMS

We have an ongoing effort with MUSC to educate people on golf cart safety; we are partnered with a State Farm Insurance brokerage bringing fire safety awareness to our community as well as ongoing efforts within the schools teaching fire safety concepts, escape plans and see something say something.

Smoke Detector and Bed Shaker Installation
Early detection saves lives. We are working diligently to ensure that every home has working smoke detectors installed. For community members who are deaf or hard of hearing, we are also providing bed shakers and specialized alarm systems to ensure everyone receives timely warnings in the event of a fire.

CPR Instruction
Immediate bystander CPR is one of the most powerful tools for saving lives during cardiac emergencies. The Arlington Heights Fire Department is proud to offer CPR instruction to all citizens, equipping our community with the skills to respond confidently in an emergency. Learning hands-only CPR—calling 911, pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest, and continuing until help arrives—can mean the difference between life and death. Community Messaging
Education is at the heart of risk reduction. Our campaign includes targeted messaging to increase awareness about fire safety, emergency preparedness, and the resources available to you. Keep an eye out for social media posts, local events, and educational materials throughout the week.

Lithium-Ion Battery Safety
With the growing use of rechargeable devices, lithium-ion battery safety has never been more important. Always use manufacturer-recommended chargers, avoid overcharging, and never charge devices on soft surfaces or under pillows. Dispose of damaged or expired batteries safely at designated collection points.

Reducing Risk to Firefighters During “Routine” Responses
Every emergency call presents unique challenges, especially those that seem routine or part of daily work. This year, we are encouraging our firefighters to stay vigilant and remain aware of potential risks in all situations—not just major incidents. By making risk awareness part of our daily culture, we aim to reduce injuries and ensure a positive, healthy work environment for everyone on our team.

Education: Smoke Alarms – Did you know smoke alarms can prevent half of home fire deaths?
Fire safety education starts at home. Ensuring every residence has working smoke alarms is a critical step in prevention—helping families stay informed, prepared, and protected.

Engineering: The 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (CWRC) is designed to strengthen community safety and protect property from wildfires through targeted construction and maintenance standards in high-risk areas.

Enforcement: The Frederick-Firestone Fire District’s Annual Fire Safety Inspection Program helps keep our community safe by ensuring all local commercial businesses receive yearly inspections and stay compliant with current fire codes.

Emergency Response: Through the Frederick-Firestone Fire District’s Community Risk Assessment, we identify and prioritize local risks. Our Standards of Cover then guide how we respond to those risks—helping us protect our community today and into the future.

Economic Incentive: In 2025, Frederick-Firestone Fire District crews saved $4,719,988 in property while limiting losses to $204,655. Through preparedness, education, and proactive risk reduction, we’re protecting lives, strengthening our community, and safeguarding valuable local resources.”

Countryside Fire Protection District

Community Risk Reduction is a vital part of Countryside Fire Protection District’s everyday efforts; however, CRR Week gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the “why” behind our work. Throughout the week, we will focus on strengthening both internal and external awareness–internally by learning together to better understand how each role in the organization contributes to CRR, and externally by engaging community partners through targeted conversations and sharing our general CRR efforts on social media.

We will spend the week highlighting Community Risk Reduction and what it means to Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue. We will focus on Emergency Response and how it doesn’t end there. Community Risk Reduction looks at every incident and how we can reduce the risk of these incidents reoccurring.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue

Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) will participate in CRR Week 2026 by highlighting key Community Risk Reduction initiatives currently underway in Lincoln. Throughout the week, LFR will focus on improving, updating, and educating the community on critical safety measures, including CO detectors, Knox Box programs, PulsePoint awareness, and AED location verification. These efforts support LFR’s ongoing commitment to reducing risk and enhancing community safety through proactive education and prevention.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department

Our Board of Supervisors will read our proclamation in January to officially kick off CRR week 2026. We plan to work with our PIO to promote CRR week, with different themes throughout the week, to include smoke alarms, hands-only CPR, and fall prevention. CRR staff will meet and collaborate with other partners within the Fire and Rescue Department, to include our Fire Marshal’s office, Public Information Office, and the Operations Bureau to promote CRR-related topics. Several community events are already planned, to include a “Senior Safety Summit”, which will be a collaboration of various County agencies offering materials related to life safety education and community risk reduction.

Harrison Fire-Rescue is committed to enhancing community safety through proactive risk reduction. Our efforts include conducting fire safety workshops and educational outreach to raise public awareness. We perform thorough inspections to ensure compliance with safety codes, minimizing potential hazards in various environments. By analyzing incident data, we identify trends and focus our interventions on high-risk areas. Oregon State Fire Marshal

OSFM will be recognizing CRR Week 2026 through a variety of channels. This includes hosting a CRR Webinar on January 7th to allow prevention partners to learn more about CRR, what strategies Oregon fire agencies use to fill the gaps in prevention, how OSFM can support them, and share resources to get people started. We also have a CRR Week webpage to encourage engagement and share resources. CRR resource from OSFM include participation in the Smoke Alarm Installation Program (SAIP), the use of data dashboards created by OSFM’s Analytics and Intelligence Unit, and the OSFM Defensible Space Program.

Crisis Response Team (CRT)
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR) employs a team of Licensed Clinical Social Works (LCSW) and Case Managers (CM) assigned to EMS Operations in our effort get the Right Resource to the Right Patient at the Right Time in pursuit of the Right Outcome. When patient’s experience mental health emergencies, the traditional 911 system is often their only access to resources, which our Crisis Response Team (CRT) addresses by sending a highly-trained, licensed clinical provider to the scene of the emergency, meeting the patient where they are, promoting a better rapport with the patient, and more direct access to clinical assessment and resources via the LCSW. Historically, that patient would be shuffled to the Emergency Department (ED), likely resulting in an inconsistent experience and tying up valuable real-estate for high-acuity medical patients. The front-end efforts of our clinicians, along with the back-end efforts of our CMs, our CRT program offers patients meaningful clinical engagement, targeted resources, and continuity of care through on-going case management, ultimately promoting better patient experiences and outcomes, more efficient use of community resources, and decompression of our EMS system and hospital health care partners.

Gilbert Fire & Rescue

Gilbert, Arizona

Gilbert Fire & Rescue’s new program, “Take Your Time, You’ve Earned It,” is helping to prevent falls in assisted living and behavioral health facilities. The program is keeping people safe while cultivating new partnerships within the Gilbert community.

For years, Gilbert Fire & Rescue has done fall prevention, but the number of falls in Gilbert has remained relatively high. Out of this problem came Gilbert’s own unique outreach effort, “Take Your Time, You’ve Earned It.” Rather than focusing solely on older adults, as had been done previously, Gilbert’s initiative also targeted educating employees at assisted living facilities. This proved important for several reasons.

First and foremost, it keeps fall safety precautions top of mind for essential caregivers. The program teaches at-risk adults how to prevent falls effectively, while also instructing caregivers on how to manage falls when they do occur. The program helps to build relationships between Fire & Rescue and the Gilbert community. Firefighters foster trust as they engage with facility staff and make meaningful connections with residents. The ongoing initiative also aligns with Fire & Rescue’s mission to provide “innovative prevention, compliance, and community outreach efforts.”

“Take Your Time, You’ve Earned It” was piloted in five assisted living facilities in Gilbert. To measure the program’s success, GFRD gathered fall data from six months before and six months after each presentation. In each case, the results showed a significant decrease, indicating that the outreach was effective.

Results: A 29% reduction and counting in 9-11 fall-related calls.

Will be using steps to safety in our retirement communities, senior center, read books in the library, getting into the school system for pub ed Oppurtunites, using our social media to keep the public informed.

Manchaca Fire Rescue

Our risk reduction week 2026 will focus on Lithium Ion Battery safety. This year’s Fire Prevention Week also focuses on Lithium Ion Battery safety geared for kids. We will focus messaging to adults during CRR Week 2026.

Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District/ Pulaski County Office of Emergency Management

This would be our first time participating, as we are in our crawling phase of our CRR Program. We provided education on different responses and preparedness for natural disasters, especially those that mostly impact our community, during our Warming Center efforts that ended today. We are currently taking courses on CRR.

Chiloquin Fire & Rescue

Battlefield Fire Protection District

Despite extreme cold weather, our District will continue to promote our pre-scheduled CRR efforts to educate the community on actual and potential risks. This includes a new initiative in Missouri to require thermal fuses for home oxygen therapy.

Arvada Fire

Arvada Fire is proud to serve our community not only in times of crisis, but through education, prevention, and partnership every day. During CRR Week we are focusing on actions that can make a big difference in preventing fires, medical emergencies, and injuries before they happen.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue

During Community Risk Reduction Week, we celebrate the strong partnership between Fond du Lac Fire Rescue and the greater Fond du Lac community. By working together, we enhance safety through fire prevention education, emergency preparedness, and quick response times. When residents stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and support each other, we all make Fond du Lac a great place to live and work.

South Kitsap Fire & Rescue

Actively having fire crews check smoke alarms on 911 calls if they have time, fall prevention, self-lift education in senior housing, and pushing wildfire defensible space education.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department

We plan to collaborate with our PIO to have a different message for each day of CRR week. These messages include PulsePoint/AED awareness, smoke alarms (to include an event on Saturday to distribute alarms and batteries to the community), File of Life program, Fall Prevention, Cooking Fire Safety, Fireplace ashes safety, Community Connect, and more! An informational bulletin will be distributed to all of our Operational personnel explaining CRR week and it’s benefits to the community and public safety personnel.

Our goal is to spread awareness to our community about our efforts to keep them safe like our Fire PALS program, Car Seat Installations/Inspections, Residential Risk Assessment Survey, Pre-Incident Plans, Fire Plans Inspector, Upcoming Smoke Detector program, and so on.

Alaska Division of Fire and Life Safety

The Alaska State Fire Marshal supports helping communities gain better awareness of the risks within their own communities. We will be providing information on social media on what CRR is and visiting local communities to assist in smoke/CO alarm installations while scheduling future visits to guide departments in their own community risk assessments.

Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control

In 2025, the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Unit is committed to supporting fire departments across Colorado in developing effective community risk assessments. To facilitate this, the unit will release a CRR manual and template, providing a standardized approach to identifying and mitigating local risks. Additionally, a statewide youth firesetting intervention program is being launched to address this critical issue through education and targeted resources. The unit is also excited to place four state-of-the-art safety trailers into service, enhancing public outreach and safety education initiatives. These efforts underscore the CRR Unit’s dedication to fostering safer and more resilient communities statewide.

Gates Fire District

During CRR Week, Gates Fire District will promote some of our programs through social media channels as well as our LED sign. We will also support and encourage our belief in sprinkler systems by promoting tax benefits and posting videos. Our 2025 mailer will advertise some of our programs, such as Oxygen Fire Safety Valves, Fall Prevention, Fire Prevention and Free Smoke Alarms. Our $50,000 grant from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for carbon monoxide alarms is also being promoted. This will help us provide CO alarms to all residences in the town of Gates.

Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue

This year’s CRR Week is focused on “Economic Incentives”. Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue will be reaching out to our community via emails, social media, our newsletter and website to provide assistance on where to go to locate resources to assist with economic incentives. As well as giving helpful information on where to start for home hardening projects that provide the best economic benefit (starting small and working towards the more expensive items). We will also be working with other community leaders and organizations to promote other “economic incentives” that are local such as our Title III funding for wildfire hazardous fuels reduction projects, our free defensible space assessments, ISO ratings and other incentive programs. Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue will work collaboratively with Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office to relay a cohesive message of awareness.

Meridian Fire Department

During Community Risk Reduction Week 2026, the Meridian Fire Department is proud to join fire service partners across Idaho in delivering a unified message about what Community Risk Reduction truly entails—and why it is essential to the modern fire service.
Our efforts will focus on educating both our community and our responders on the CRR process itself: using data-informed analysis to identify risk, applying the 5 E’s of CRR—Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Economic Incentives, and Emergency Response—and measuring outcomes to ensure meaningful impact.
Together with regional agencies, we will emphasize that CRR is not a single program or event, but an intentional, ongoing strategy that strengthens emergency response while reducing preventable incidents before they occur. Agency representatives will be gathering at the Capital Building for a CRR Week Proclamation signing by Governor Brad Little on 1/20/26, additionally recognizing CRR Week at a State level.

This year also marks the continued development of the Treasure Valley Community Risk Reduction Cooperative, a collaborative initiative formed by agencies and organizations committed to working together across jurisdictional boundaries. The cooperative’s shared vision is to identify, prioritize, and reduce fire and life safety risks through coordinated education, data-sharing, resource alignment, and community partnerships—creating a more resilient region through collective action.

Internally, Meridian Fire will place a strong emphasis on the Emergency Response component of CRR. CRR Week provides an opportunity to reinforce the critical role first responders play in prevention through accurate documentation and high-quality data input. By strengthening our data foundation, we are better equipped to identify trends, guide prevention strategies, and ensure our CRR efforts are targeted, measurable, and effective.

Through regional collaboration, intentional data use, and a shared commitment to prevention, Meridian Fire Department continues to advance a proactive, modern approach to community risk reduction—working upstream today to build a safer community tomorrow.

Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services

The Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services will continue to build our CRR program through outreach at community events, Stop the Bleed, CPR and First Aid training and social media campaigns on emergency planning and response.

Huntley Fire Protection District

We have recently started a “Medical Lending Closet” at our headquarters station. This effort is a FREE service to our residents that can borrow gently used medical equipment, donated by other residents, to help reduce falls or injuries. During the CRR Week, we plan to promote this service to our residents.

City of Richmond (KY) Fire Department

We are partnering with Eastern Kentucky University Greek student organizations to conduct door to door smoke alarm installations. We have used our 5 year fire loss data to identify at risk areas in an effort to get smoke alarms in homes and increase smoke alarm and fire safety awareness.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue

During CRR week, each day we will post general safety tips on social media to remind the community of fire and life safety!

PA Office of State Fire Commissioner

We will be sharing with fire departments what CRR is and best practices that could help with stories from around the State. Sharing with local officials the different ways CRR can help with community risk that is not just related to fire but also to EMS and other government services. Providing training portion to fire departments on data analyze.

Alabama Fire College

At the state level, we hope to provide Alabama departments with free resources to promote risk reduction and prevention.

Falls Creek Ranch

We will be working on the update to our CWPP with CRR as a goal. We need to add a post-fire recovery section and a new evacuation section. Both are essential. We will also create the new criteria of reducing the ponderosa stands by 50%, rather than the 25% currently in the CWPP.

Harris County ESD No. 48 Fire - EMS

I have just completed and mailed the request for proclamation for Texas. I will be taking advantage of the suggestions on the website for our CRR Week.

Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe will continue to provide CRR activities such as First Aid, CPR/AED Classes. Indian Health Services Safe Native American Passenger Training, smoke alarm and CO detector. Our Tribal paper put in articles/photos each month showing the CRR activies of this department

Camp I Am Me by Illinois Fire Safety Alliance

We will be distributing smoke alarms to Illinois fire departments leading up to and during CRR week as well as posting safety messages on our social media accounts.

Travis County ESD No. 2/Pflugerville Fire Department

We have several CRR initiatives in the works. We in the are in the process of updating our CRA and CRR plan. Two new items will include small business engagement (ensuring business owners understanding ISO/PPC, what services we can provide them – CPR, first aid, extinguisher training, and a monthly coffee meet up. The other item is documenting and quantifying a special interest group attempt to remove fire department funding for their own purposes no related to public safety. We are also in our third year of our data based smoke alarm drive using FEMA funded smoke alarms. We have also partnered with our County and a local non-profit for a federal grant submission for wildfire home hardening funding. Our Board of Commissioners will also be adopting a proclamation for CRR Week.

Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue

During CRR Week PBGFR will promote the five E’s through social media channels as well as highlight success stories, including a sprinkler ordinance that was passed in our community in 2023. CRR information will be shared with employees and personnel through a weekly city employee newsletter.

Dorchester County Fire Rescue

This year in 2025 we will be expanding our Community Risk Reduction program by adding Community CPR Classes and Opioid Education classes to our community and older adults concerning medication.

We will be providing Community Risk Reduction fire and life safety information, education and resources to the City of Brookfield residents through a wide array of programs, in order to educate our community on how to prevent and resolve fire and health related problems. We do this through social media, area events, and safety talks with the public.

We plan to continue to educate residents about the importance of smoke alarms, while providing smoke alarms, batteries, and physical assistance to qualifying residents. This plan will include educating residents on how to maintain smoke alarms, targeting manufactured home communities for physical assistance (testing and alarm/battery replacement.) Operate a Non-Emergency Smoke (and CO) Alarm weblink that offers alarms, batteries, and/or physical assistance to qualifying residents.
